Week 1

  • Drawing a suitcase for an adventure and labelling items
  • Writing about a pirate adventure (What would you need to pack?)
  • Describing different textures (Soft, hard, rough, smooth) 
  • Hero Academy reading book 

Phonics: Revistqu and sh diagraph. Writing words and sentences with the digraphs (egqueen and ship)

Weekly words: a, at, an, and, am

Mathematics: 2D/3D shapes (Properties of shapes- A sphere can roll, You can stack a cube. Identifying shapes around the home)


Week 2

  • Discussing emotions (Scared, sad, happy, angry, jealous, disappointed)
  • Make and decorate coin biscuits for a pirate
  • Make a pirate ship using different materials (Boxes)
  • Reading familiar stories (Can you see any high frequency words in the book?)

Phonics: Revistth and ng diagraph. Writing words and sentences with the digraphs

Weekly words: is, in, it, on, up

Mathematics: Money (Introducing familiar coins 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p)


Week 3

  • Making a healthy fruit salad (Which fruit did you like the best?)
  • Talking about zoo/jungle animals (How are they different from farm animals?)
  • How do we take care of different animals

Phonics: Revist ai and ee diagraph. Draw a picture of something with the ai and ee digraph. Can you write words/ sentences about the picture that you have drawn? (eg rain/ sheep)

Weekly words: can, cat, gat, big

Mathematics: Heavy and light (Weighing different objects from around the home)


Week 4

Reading non-fiction books 

Making transport models for a journey (Boat, aeroplane, helicopter, ship)

Phonics: igh and oa. Writing words and sentences with the digraph/trigraph     (eg night/light/boat/coat)

Weekly words: yes, mum, dad, up, big

Mathematics: Addition using money  eg (1p add 1p equals 2 pence)

Week 5

Discuss animals that live on the land/sea. Draw and label different animals.  

Planting cress seed and broad beans (Chart the growth of the plants. Make a diary)

Phonics: oo digraph. Writing words and sentences with the digraph (moon, soon)

Weekly words: the, to, no, go, I

Mathematics: Capacity (Full, half full, empty, nearly full, nearly empty)


Week 6

  • Discussing different types of weather (Autumn, Spring, Summer, Winter)
  • Encouraging your child to talk about things that they enjoy doing, things that they are good at

Phonics: ar

Weekly words: he, she, we, be, me . Writing sentences with the weekly words.

Mathematics:Number bonds to 10, 20 

(For example; 1 add 9 =10, 2 add 8= 10, 3 add 7= 10)


Week 7

Reading fiction and non -fiction books with your child (Talking about the pictures using sentences. What diagraphs can we see in the books?)

Observational paintings of flowers and trees

Phonics: or and ur. Writing words and sentences with the digraphs

Weekly words: was, my, you, they

(eg fork/surf)

Mathematics: One more and one less (Number up to 20. What is one more than 18? One less than 16?)


Week 8

Describing the texture of different materials (Soft, hard, bumpy, rough)

Making a healthy sandwich for farmer duck

Phonics: ow (eg cow)

Weekly words: all, are, as, for, see

Mathematics: Halving/Sharing (Equal number shared into different parts. Yiuhave 6 apples and 2 plates. Can you share them onto the plates. How many apples are on each plate?)


Week 9

Drawing and writing about different sea animals 

What animals live in the sea? Are they big or small?

Looking at features of different sea creatures

Phonics: oi digraph (eg soil)

Weekly words: look, this, come

Mathematics:Positional language (Under, over, behind, next to, in front)


Week 10

  • Rhyming words . Sing different songs with your child. Can we identify the rhyming words in each song. Twinkle, twinkle little star, How I wonderwhat you are 
  • Write a poem about summer  
  • Phonics: ear trigraph (eg tear) 

Weekly words: went, going

Mathematics:Time. Sequencing parts of the days of the day. Naming the days of the week.


Week 11

  • Making sea transport models (Submarine, boat, ship )
  • Where would you like to go on holiday?? 
  • Children to write about previous holidays 

Phonics: air trigraph (eg fairy, pair)

Weekly words: of, like, said. Writing sentences using the weekly words

Mathematics: Subtraction (Numbers up to 20) 


Week 12

  • Discussing the transition from Reception to Year 1
  • Making sea creatures using boxes, crayons, newspaper
  • Hearo Academy book
  • Design and make an island. What would the island be called ?? 
  • Phonics: ure trigraph and er (eg pure/sure / hammer) 

Weekly words: away, play, day

Mathematics:- Shapes and patterns (Indoor and outdoor environment)
