Below you will find Information about Swimming for this school.

We're thrilled to share that this year we have continued to develop and invest in our on-site Swim Ed program, which has brought many advantages to our students' learning and contains to height light the profile of school swimming across our community.

Universal Accessibility: Our on-site Swim Ed program is designed to be fully accessible, ensuring that every student could participate in swimming lessons. This inclusivity fostered a sense of unity and shared experiences among our diverse student body, making swimming an inclusive activity.

Confidence and Comfort: The on-site Swim Ed program creates a familiar and comfortable setting, allowing students to feel more confident during swimming lessons. The reduction in anxiety associated with swimming transformed the experience from potentially daunting to a positive experience.

Small Group Sizes for Enhanced Teaching: One of the key features of our Swim Ed program is the provision of small group sizes, ensuring a better quality of teaching. This approach will allow for more individualized attention, fostering a supportive learning environment where students can progress at their own pace.

Increased Engagement: The convenience of the on-site Swim Ed program, coupled with small group sizes, will lead to a notable rise in pupil engagement. Students are more eager to participate in swimming lessons when the program is easily accessible, resulting in a higher percentage of active involvement and enthusiasm for this essential life skill.

Extended Learning Opportunities: With minimal travel and changing time, our students will benefit from extended learning time through the Swim Ed program. This focus on maximizing instructional time enhanced their ability to develop crucial swimming skills efficiently.

The introduction of our on-site Swim Ed program has elevated the profile of school swimming across our entire community. By providing a positive environment for learning to swim and safe water rescue, we not only prioritized our students' physical well-being but also show cased the significance of swimming as a valuable life skill.

Swimming and the national curriculum

Since 1994, swimming and water safety has been a statutory element of the national curriculum for physical education in England.

This means that every 11-year old child should leave primary school with the skills to keep themselves safe while enjoying swimming with friends and family.

The three national curriculum outcomes

Swimming is the only sport to be included within the national curriculum physical education programme of study. All primary schools must provide swimming and water safety lessons in either Key Stage 1 or 2.

Each pupil is required to be able to do the following:

**Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

**Swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres

**Use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke.
