Homework Years 1-6

Dear Parents/carers

I am writing to you to share the expectations for homework for your child. Your child will receive homework each Friday. They should take care to complete it to a high standard and bring it back to school by Tuesday of the following week.

There may also be times when we set additional homework. This may because your child would benefit from extra homework, is receiving additional support in school or because they have a particular interest or need. Additional homework must be completed.

We ask that you ensure that your child reads to an adult at home every day. Reading is the fundamental basis of your child’s education and children learn to read on the lap of their parents and wider family. Your child will be given a new book every week on Monday. Lost or unreturned books may result in a charge.

Children from Reception up to Year 4 will have an accompanying reading record diary. We would like an adult to make a comment in their reading diary twice a week. We will be looking in the reading records to see if there are any comments and we will talk to parents to ensure this is happening. The children can read their schoolbook, but they can also read a book from home, a magazine, a newspaper, a website or a comic – any reading is good reading.

Your support with your child’s education is a very important way to ensure that your child continues to make progress. If you struggle with supporting your child, please speak to your child’s class teacher for help.

Kind regards,

Z. Thewlis
