Dear Parents/Carers,
As part of the Government’s strategy to raise standards in Mathematical education for all children – they have decided to introduce a national test for all children in year 4 to see if they are able to recall, from memory, all their times table facts from 2 to 12. Your child will take this test in June 2021 – so we have enough time to focus upon the memorisation of all these number facts.
In the actual test, your child will answer 3 practice questions before moving on to the official check and they will then have 6 seconds to answer each question. On average, the check should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. There is information for parents at the following link:
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/869846/2020_Information_for_parents_multiplication_tables_check.pdf
Please support your child in helping them practise their times tables.
Example: 8 x 5 = 40
The website below is similar to that of the actual Multiplication Tables Check:

One of the best ways to practise is to use our Times Table Rock Stars – app. You should’ve received a username and password for this – if you can’t get access to this site please ask your teacher for more details.
If you have any questions about this national assessment, then please talk to your class teacher in the first instance.
Yours sincerely,
Mr J Aldred
Assistant Head Teacher
