05/01/2021: Letter to all parents

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am sure you will have heard by now that our Prime Minister has announced a further national lockdown this. Unlike the second lockdown we experienced in November, this one does affect school.

As a result of the announcement, Birchfield will now be closed to all pupils except for pupils of critical workers and vulnerable pupils.

Government guidance states that if you CAN keep your pupil at home then you should do so. This provision is only available if you do not have anyone to look after your child at home.

If you meet this criteria and require critical worker provision, please fill in the form (link below). You will be required to provide proof of employment.

The majority of pupils will now begin the process of learning from home. We will be using the Microsoft Teams platform for this and daily work will be set by your child’s class teacher. This work will be the same content as what they would be doing in school so engagement in this learning is essential. Teachers will monitor children’s attendance to remote sessions. Where children are not engaging, phone calls home will be made as part of our safeguarding duty to all our pupils.

We appreciate that some families may have difficulties in accessing online learning. If this is the case for you, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so that we can try to assist you.

Remote learning will start tomorrow, Wednesday 6th January 2021. Please log onto TEAMS via the information previously sent to you. A timetable for your child will be available on the school website shortly.

Thank you for your ongoing support at this challenging time. Stay safe and well.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Z Thewlis

Head of School
