On Thursday 11th September, Eesa Amjid (player for England Squad and West Bromwich Albion blind football squad) visited Birchfield Primary.
He met a group of lucky pupils to talk about his footballing journey. Eesa also practicised some drills with them and they experienced playing football with limited or no sight. It was a joy to welcome him back to Birchfield as he was a pupil here several years ago. The pupils, who took part, found the experience of meeting Eesa truly inspiring and made the following comments:
Moosa: Meeting Easa was so cool! He’s a blind footballer and he showed us how he plays using sound and teamwork. I didn’t know football could be played without seeing the ball—it was amazing. When I put on the blindfold, I felt nervous at first, but Esa helped us listen carefully to the ball and trust our feet. I kicked it and actually scored! Easa was really kind and showed us that you can do anything if you believe in yourself. I’ll always remember how brave and talented he is.
Sanaya: Today was amazing! I got to meet a blind footballer and learn how they play the game without seeing. He was so confident and fast—it was really inspiring. We wore blindfolds and tried kicking the ball by listening to the sound it made. It was tricky at first, but I started to get the hang of it. I couldn’t believe how much you have to trust your ears and your teammates. It made me realise how strong and skilled blind players are. I’ll never forget it!”
Ameera: it was a fantastic opportunity to experience something different. Easa was kind and explained how to play blind football and I had a lot of fun getting to try it out.
We look forward to welcoming Eesa back to our school in the future!
