Birchfield Primary School marked the joyous occasion of World Book Day on 6th March 2025. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils and staff to celebrate the joy of reading.
Students and teachers enthusiastically dressed up as their favourite characters from various stories. The day featured virtual storytelling sessions by authors, bookmark designing activities and a book token competition. The school's text for the day was "Footpath Flowers" by Jon Arno Lawson, a heartwarming tale about a little girl who collects wildflowers and shares them as kind gestures with people and animals.
In addition, the Scholastic Book Fair visited the school from 24th February to 3rd March, offering students the opportunity to purchase a wide range of exciting fiction and non-fiction books.
A group of Year 6 students also visited the local library, where they received World Book Day vouchers and a selection of non-fiction and fiction books to read at school or home. The school library was redesigned in September. Children and teachers visited the school library and chose texts to read throughout the week.
World Book Day was thoroughly enjoyed by pupils and staff across the school. Here are some reflections from our pupils:
-
Uzair, Reception: "I liked the story about the girl picking up the flowers. She was kind to people. I like to read books with my teachers in school."
-
Umar, Year 1: "I loved World Book Day because I love seeing all of the different characters from the books. I enjoy reading in school and at home because the stories take us on adventures to places that we have never seen before."
-
Juwayriyaa, Year 5: "On World Book Day, it felt like I was experiencing the characters from my books in real life. I enjoy reading because I feel like it takes me to another world, full of different adventures."
World Book Day was a memorable and enriching experience for the Birchfield Primary School community.
