I am writing to make you aware of a guidance change as of 11.01.22 regarding PCR tests.
Lateral flow tests are used to regularly test for Covid 19 in people who do not have symptoms.
From 11.01.22 Public health have advised that if you have tested and reported a positive LFD result, you do not need a further PCR test to confirm the positive result.
PCR tests are still required for those who have Covid symptoms.
The area outside our school is very busy in the morning and even more so at leaving times. Irresponsible parking places children and adults in danger. We continue to have persistent inconsiderate and/or dangerous parking on the roads around school and this is concerning for other pedestrians and drivers.
The following actions present risks to our children:
Pulling into or blocking the entrance to the driveway- emergency vehicles and other traffic need access
Parking on yellow lines or zig-zags near to the school entrance
Parking on the pavements, across dropped kerbs or residents’ driveways
Stopping in the middle of the road to drop off a child, even for a few seconds
Birchfield staff are outside every day to support the safe arrival and collection of our pupils on site. Please support us by demonstrating courtesy and consideration for the safety and wellbeing of our pupils and families as they arrive and leave school.
Welcome back as we start the new term together at Birchfield. We are very happy to be open and to be welcoming our children back into school. As you will be aware, there are a significant number of cases of COVID nationally and the new variant spreads very easily. Please be aware of the following information: The new Omicron variant reportedly presents other symptoms including tiredness, headaches, and a sore throat. Whilst these are not officially confirmed, if your child is unwell, it is advisable to do a lateral flow test (LFT). If this is positive, they should then have a PCR test. If children have Covid symptoms: a new continuous cough, loss of taste and smell, or a temperature, they should get a PCR test. They can then return to school if this is negative. If someone in your household tests positive or if children are confirmed as a contact, children are still allowed to come to school but they should carry out an LFT test daily for 7 days. As long as these tests are negative and they are well, they can continue to come to school. If your child receives a positive PCR test, they must isolate for at least 7 days. On days 6 and 7, they can do an LFT and if both are negative and they don’t have symptoms, they can return to school on day 8.
I hope this information is helpful and know that you will support us to keep our school community safe. If you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. The link below will take you to the latest guidance.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy new year. In light of the current COVID 19 situation we have decided to postpone our teacher training day due to be held on Monday 31st January 2022. This was due to our Trust -wide conference which would have involved large numbers of staff from all six schools coming together.
This date will now be a normal school day and we will reschedule the teacher training day for later in the year. We will of course give you plenty of notice of the new date in order that you can change your childcare arrangements, as necessary.
As a school we want all our children to love reading. One of the greatest gifts you can give your child is a new book for them to read and enjoy. As a school, we have invited the Scholastic book fair to bring us some new books for your child to have a look at. They will be shown around the books with their class teacher, and they will bring home a list of the books they would like to buy. There is no pressure for you to buy all the books they would like - we are aware of the financial constraints all families are facing at the moment. If you are able to purchase one or more books, then that would be a wonderful investment in your child’s future.
Paying for the books:
The children will bring back home their wish list and you can follow the instructions on the form regarding purchasing books from the Scholastic website. We cannot accept payments in school as parents are not allowed into the school to view the books at present. You can pay online, and we will be informed what book you have purchased, and we will send your child home with their new book – the following day.
We hope you are able to treat your child to a new book and sit with them to enjoy them together.
